The Ultimate Fighter 10 Preview: Kimbo Slice vs. Roy “Big Country” Nelson

Tonight at 10 PM on Spike TV, Kimbo Slice will make his unofficial UFC debut against veteran fighter Roy “Big Country” Nelson on this season’s Ultimate Fighter.

This is a fight many expected would happen at the end of the season but in typical UFC fashion, they have thrown a much hyped fighter in Slice into the snake pit early. Kimbo has been training and expanding his MMA ability with team Rampage but he faces a true heavyweight veteran in Nelson.

While Slice was backyard brawling on YouTube, the unassuming Nelson was working his way towards the IFL heavyweight championship. Nelson, known for his seriously big belly, has lost back to back fights, to former UFC champ Andrei Arlovski and perennial top 20 HW Jeff Monson, since leaving the IFL. Both men will be looking to make a big statement with this fight.

This will undoubtedly be the highest rated Ultimate Fighter episode and early reports suggest Kimbo is going to fare better than his previous outing...

UFC Fight Night Analysis and Predictions (SPIKE TV)

Past UFC Fight Nights have provided some of the most exciting finishes because the free events, featured on SPIKE TV, usually feature young fighters not necessarily in title contention, looking to make a name for themselves. Example: Josh Koscheck KO’d Yoshiyuki Yoshida twice in one fight at the Fight for Troops Fight Night (Brutal).

Tonight’s card includes some potentially explosive match ups so let’s get into it.

Nate Diaz vs. Melvin Guillard

The Diaz brothers, Nick and Nate, are the epitome of loud mouth Stockton street kids but difference between them and every other Affliction wearing jackhole in the Central Valley is these kids have been training Gracie Jui Jitsu and boxing since they were knee high to a duck. Translation: “I don’t give a f*ck” attitude combined with highly refined technical martial arts prowess. Dangerous! Melvin Guillard is a strong grappler and an explosive striker but he’s emotional and he gives up bad positions in a scramble. Look for the wiry Diaz to take some big shots on the feet but eventually drag Guillard to the ground and sink in a fight ending rear naked choke.

Roger Huerta vs. Gray Maynard

Roger “El Matador” Huerta has one fight left on his contract before he departs the UFC to try his overly moisturized, metro-sexual hand at acting. Gray Maynard is a huge lightweight who has incredible wrestling and has been diversifying his striking ability. Don’t get me wrong, Huerta is a good fighter and he has tons of heart but after a year long layoff and an expressed desire to quit the fight game, the UFC wasn’t about to line up a cupcake ‘walk-off homer’ for Huerta. Maynard is going to grind Huerta down, use his wrestling to slam ‘El Metro-dor’ into the cage, and eventually put those ambitious hands to work on the ground.

Carlos Condit vs. Jake Ellenberger

In case you didn’t know, the UFC has a sister fight league in the WEC. The best featherweight and bantamweight fighters are there and up until a year ago, they even had a welterweight division. Carlos Condit ruled the WEC welterweight division as champion for almost 2 years. Eventually they folded that division into the UFC and Condit ended up losing his UFC debut fight via a tough decision to Martin Kampmann. Why does any of this matter? Because Condit is the best welterweight most people have never heard of and he’s in the UFC to prove it. On the other hand, Ellenberger is just a welterweight know one has ever heard of and he’s making his UFC debut against a really dangerous competitor. Ellenberger is stout and strong but look for Condit to use his range to clip his opponent’s chin until he can close the distance, take him down and submit him.

Kimbo, Former NFLers Headline This Season's "The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights"

The most highly anticipated season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) premiers this Wednesday at 10 PM on Spike TV and features an all-star line-up of Heavyweight fighters. The roster includes former IFL champion, Roy "Big Country" Nelson, 4 former NFL players and of course the street fighting internet sensation, Kimbo Slice.

As many know, just a year ago, Kimbo was branded as the ‘baddest man alive’ by the half-ass MMA promotion Elite XC. After Kimbo was KO’d by a UFC wash out, the promotion folded and Kimbo was left without a home. It was either return to Florida, start banging on the streets for YouTube hits and working as enforcer for a porn king again (all true), or step up. UFC President Dana White has had more negative thing to say about Kimbo than anyone but he always maintained that if Kimbo wanted to fight in the UFC, he had to go through The Ultimate Fighter. Well Kimbo stepped up and now we’ll find out if he is more sensation or savage in a real fight.
