Dan Rooney to Cash in on Political Graft with Ambassadorship
No good deed, or in this case large donation, goes unrewarded.
Today (St. Patrick's Day), President Obama announced the nomination of the Pittsburgh Steelers owner to be the US ambassador to Ireland.
An Obama statement reads:
"I am honored and grateful that such a dedicated and accomplished individual has agreed to serve as the representative of the United States to the Irish people. Dan Rooney is an unwavering supporter of Irish peace, culture, and education, and I have every confidence that he and Secretary Clinton will ensure America’s continued close and unique partnership with Ireland in the years ahead."
A lifelong Republican, the opportunisitc Rooney, sensing the country shifting towards an ObamaNation, shoveled tons of money and public support to the now-President.
The ambassadorship is, no doubt, a heartfelt political thank you for Rooney's efforts to do his part in delivering the Western part of the swing state of PA.
There's the lesson kids: Make large public donations, get a large public post.
