HHR EXCLUSIVE: From The D.C. Bureau: Bob Costas Didn’t Think Judge Sotomayor Was An All Star

Okay, we’ve heard enough sports metaphors and talk about how Judge Sonia Sotomayor “saved baseball” by Senators who probably throw a lot like Mariah Carey.

So, we feel it necessary to bring up some much needed sport’s precedent...in the form of an opinion by baseball’s Chief Justice, Bob Costas.

Apparently the Queens, NY native didn’t think much of his fellow New Yorker, Sonia Sotomayor, during her time on the bench. In the 2002 video below, Costas gives an impassioned dissent regarding Sotomayor’s ruling on the baseball strike. “Saved baseball?” Not so much according to Costas…

We’ll wait and see if Republicans call Costas out of the 'pen to battle the Democrats' witness David Cone later in the week.

Dunbar's Olympic-sized Bits and Pieces

  • The olympics needs more Bella Karolyi. Already dropping bombs on gymnastics judges calling them corrupt. Can't you see him grabbing a judge by the scruff of the neck and waistband and give a him a bar toss.
  • I have decided the worst Olympian to be (so far) is the waterpolo player in the middle that can only be described as the "Dunkee." Go swim across the pool and proceed to get dunked for a few minutes. I blow chlorine out of my nose watching it.
  • I am tired of afternoon naps that start with and wake up to rowing. They need to trim the amount of sculls in the water in an Olympics. Better yet, it should be a viking warship race.
  • Instead of the media doing cute China culture pieces like how to use chopsticks, they should have a manscaping lesson with the diving team. Bare down there.
  • Why does Costas insist on harking about how he has had to walk from set to set? People walk every day, Bob. Usually without breaking a sweat or getting a cookie afterwards.
"Gimme a snickerdoodle, bitch."

Tonight: Will Leich to Live Out Blogger's Wet Dream

From News Day's Neil Best:
Bob Costas owes Delgado the heartiest thanks of all, because the timing was exquisite for the "Costas Now" he will host on HBO at 10 tonight.

The topic is the "volatile" sports media landscape, and the live panelists are to include Michael Strahan, Chris Russo, Buzz Bissinger, Will Leitch, Joe Buck, Mike Tirico, Dan Patrick, Tiki Barber and John McEnroe.
DO YOU SEE THOSE NAMES?

My God! What a field day!

Only one fella missing...

Click here for HBO's episode guide. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear Mr Leitch will have the pleasure of going head on with the likes of the Doggy, Buck and Tiki.

73% Journalists Research via Blogs

Photo: Newsday

Editor & Publisher reports that among the findings in the "2008 PRWeek/PR Newswire Media Survey" announced today, of the 1,231 people polled, including newspaper, magazine, TV, radio, and online journalists, "Nearly 73% of respondents sometimes or always use blogs in their research. The most often cited reason for using blogs was "to measure sentiment."

Except
at the WWL and for Bob Costas, one can reasonably assume, of course.
