Tigers' Great Hope

With the Detroit Tigers clawing to stay in the playoffs. I thought it was important to give the national audience a little more perspective of the team. This was released right after the (brief) hero of last night's game was sent to the minors. Enjoy.

Crotchety Jim Bunning Owes You Nothing...

...not an answer...not a ride in his elevator.

Peeved by ABC reporters hassling him for a quote, the pitcher-turned-politician ducks into a lift and reprimands that it is a "Senators only elevator."

He should have said, "Hall of Famers only elevator." A lie, yes. But much cooler sounding. You give those meddling reporters hell, Jim!

Lasorda, Not Web Presence, Key to Turning Around HoFer Jim Bunning's Lousy Fundraising

Senator, please show us how much money you've raised so far.

Baseball Hall of Famer and embattled US Senator Jim Bunning admitted in a conference call with Kentucky reporters that his fundraising for his 2010 re-election bid has been "lousy."

From Politico: "Bunning’s remarks aren’t likely to sit well with his party’s leadership, whom the Kentucky senator has repeatedly clashed with in recent weeks. Bunning has accused National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn of Texas of trying to stunt his fundraising."

Something else that might be stunting his fundraising is that fact that, unlike just about every politician and candidate alive from President to Dog Catcher who has been embracing the Interwebs as a social, communications and fundraising tool, Bunning doesn't even seem to have an active campaign website.

The above article mentioned a fundraiser the Senator will be holding with Dodger mascot Tommy Lasorda. I'd tell you more about the event, but best I can find on his re-election bid is a site created for his 2004 race.

US Senator, HoF Pitcher, Soothsayer

Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Bunning, most known for his stints with the Phillies and Tigers, caused some fuss this past weekend when the Kentucky Republican commented that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg probably isn't gonna win her battle with the big casino.

"Bad cancer. The kind you don't get better from. Even though she was operated on, usually, nine months is the longest that anybody would live."

Coincidentally, RBG returned to the bench today, evoking kind words from Bunning, "I apologize if my comments offended Justice Ginsburg. It is great to see her back at the Supreme Court today and I hope she recovers quickly."

Simpler Times

The mid-1980s must have been a more jovial, simpler time or one of the side-effects of cocaine binges was sport-themed music collaborations and videos. Luckily, the Internets will allow generations to witness these good old times again.

From the era that brought you Footloose, We are the World, Super Bowl Shuffle and Buddy's Watchin' You, I would like to introduce you to Bless You Boys. Tiger Fever is Here!

Canseco's New Book(s)

While Jose Canseco recently found a new publisher for the follow-up book ("Vindicated") to his expose "Juiced," he is having trouble finding someone to pick up book #3. HHR Press, the publishing arm of HuggingHaroldReynolds.com has received an advanced copy, the cover of which can be seen below.

Ever the self-promoting, marketing whiz, Canseco conveniently leaked this the same day it has been reported that he offered to keep Magglio Ordonez “clear” in "Vindicated" if Mags "invested money in a film project Canseco was promoting."

Detroit Tigers Superpowers

My hand tremors have finally stopped from the excitement of the blockbuster trade between the Tigers and Marlins. Granted, it was aided by a sharp stink-eye glance from Lady Dunbar while I was checking Blackberry and text messages during parenting class. Nonetheless, now that the trade is official, the term that is being thrown out describing the Tigers is "superpower" as seen here.

I have no qualms with the moniker. I find it fitting considering they are battling the commi-Red Sox and Uncle Sam Yankmees. But the question is what superpowers do the Tigers possess? As a fan of both the Tigers (through thick and thin) and superheros, allow me to make a few comparisons.

There is no question that the Tigers will feature a lineup that is stacked with power. A natural fit to represent the team would be Rogue from X-Men who is both stacked and powerful.
The Tigs have also been plucked from previous Marlins' teams, which gives you the sense that Dombrowski has worked with Hiro Kasamoto of Heroes to time travel and teleport.

The Tigers also can kill you with good old pitching with Bondo, Verlander and Willis and their devilish bats. This double threat is reminiscent of Two-Face's double personality.

As fans, we also need to give props to Mr. Ilitch who pulled a Nightcrawler by popping out of the shadows and saying he is going to spend some Bruce Wayne cash on Cabrera and Willis.

Jim Leyland with his charred vocal cords and old style wisdom might as well dress up as Splinter from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles next Halloween.
Hopefully, the Human Torch Zumaya will pitch again, but I wouldn't hold your breath Aquaman.

Finally, as a whole, I think the Tigers with their power, agility, age and wisdom incorporate all the attributes of the properly named Beast. The Tigers will truly be a beast this year.

Beware of Beast baseball fans.
