Rep. Calls out Goodell on Limbaugh Hypocrisy, Blasts "Offensive" Dolphins Owners Fergie & JLo

Transcript from Rep. Steve King (R-IA) during yesterday's House Judiciary Committee hearing on Capitol Hill:

"Your position on owners have the right image, and I would direct it to your statement on the 13th of October where you said, 'I think it's divisive comments, or they are not what the NFL is all about. I would not want to see those kinds of comments from people who are in responsible positions within the NFL, no, absolutely not.' Now, I take you as a man of your word. But I would point out that you have a couple of owners that have performed lyrics in songs that are far more offensive. In fact, I don't think anything that Rush Limbaugh said was offensive, but with Fergie and with J. Lo, they have, between the two of them, alleged that the CIA are terrorists and liars, they've promoted sexual abuse of women, they've used the N-word, verbal pornography, recreational drug use, et cetera, and they are owners of the Dolphins.

And it is also ironic that Fergie was approved as an owner on the very day that you made your statement against Rush Limbaugh. And I would point out for the committee, the statement that Rush Limbaugh made is this -- that seems to be the one that survives the criticism, and that is: "I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They're interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. McNabb got a lot of credit for the performance of the team that he really didn't deserve," close quote."

Limbaugh's reaction: "Of course, Goodell's a total weasel. He had no answer about the Dolphins' owners so wouldn't even address the question, and he got on his high horse about how McNabb is a fine player and a fine person and it has nothing to do with the color of his skin, when I (a) never said he was not a fine person; (b) never said he was a bad QB -- just that he was overrated (which no one should deny); and (c) said the MEDIA was obsessed with the color of his skin (which is also undeniable), not that I was."

Rev. Al Looks to Block Limbaugh's Purchase of StL Rams

From Politico:

In a letter sent to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Sharpton wrote that he was “disturbed” to hear about Limbaugh’s interest in the Rams and asked for a meeting with Goodell “to discuss the myriad of reasons as to why [Limbaugh] should not be given an opportunity to do so.”

Sharpton argued that Limbaugh has been “anti-NFL” in his comments about several of the league’s players, specifically naming Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick.

In addition, Sharpton wrote that Limbaugh’s “recent statement that the NFL was beginning to look like a fight between the Crips and the Bloods without the weapons, was disturbing.”

Then he ate a meatball sub.

Assassin Ave: Is our long national nightmare finally over?

Back in 2001, the Patriots were kinda cute with who dat Tom Brady's appearance after Bledsoes's injury, the Tuck Rule and the Super Bowl win over the Rams. And who couldn't root for a team called the Patriots after 9-11? No one really felt any ownership of the LA errrr St Louis Rams anyway. The Greatest Show on Turf never rang true.

Same thing with the Red Sox. I admit it -- I found the come back against the Yankers in '04 thrilling. The team doing shots before games, making the impossible happen. It was great. I even cheered for the Sox in bars with the chief during the World Series.

Eventually though it all went sour. Cockiness always does. We began to have enough of these teams and the city as a whole. From Belichick's bad attitude to Spygate to Red Sox fans trying to gloss over the fact that their "rag-tag" team was the second highest paid in the game -- it all became fairly revolting. But it just wouldn't stop.

The glimmer of hope the Super Bowl loss gave us was stolen by the Celtics win.

But now, it seems, our long national nightmare may finally be over. First Brady's injury exposed the hubris of the Patriots organization. Really guys? A back-up who hasn't started since high school? And now the Red Sox lose to the Rays, a team that actually is what the Sox pretend to be - a loveable underdog.

It just all seems too good to be true.

So see you later Boston. Go back to the cowpaths from which you came. The rest of us are sick of you and happy to see you go.

Separated at Birth: Haslett the Goon

As Rams got lit up by the Eagles offense yesterday, producers couldn't help but show Defensive Coordinator/Alice the Goon look-a-like Jim Haslett throughout the drubbing.
