NY Giant to for Philadelphia Eagle? What is This World Coming to?

Image: philadelphiaeagles.com

As an Eagles fan, it always seemed to me that the epic NFC East battles in the trenches between Jon Runyan and Michael Strahan always seemed to tip in favor of the gapped-toothed sack monster.

Now, according to a South Jersey political leader (and the Philadelphia Daily News), Strahan is making up for all those sacks against Runyan by helping raise money for the O Lineman's Congressional race.

When you think of probable NFL supporters of Jon Runyan you might logically conclude a quarterback or two he protected, or a couple of running backs he cleared a path for. However, an early NFL supporter of Jon Runyan is none other than New York Football Giant Michael Strahan.

The Eagles and Giants have a long-standing and fierce rivalry. The two directly competed against each other on the field. When you think of the competition between the two it is hard not visualize numerous high-speed impacts. During game time neither had any love for the other. Now both are retired from the game and are working together.

According to Dan Gross at the Philadelphia Daily News, Strahan will help Runyan raise money to take on John Adler in New Jersey’s third congressional district race.

Mike Strahan Pledges to "Show More Love to Strangers"

How this benefits America is beyond us.

Michael Strahan joins the Hollywood elite in pledging to do charitable things in the spirit of Obama's "hope" in Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher's ("Dashton"?) I Pledge video

Weekend Images

Sure, there were some great scenes in sports this weekend. But can they match the enjoyment of these few snapshots I grabbed when I was out-and-about?

Tip #1: Have her sign a pre-nup

This weekend on MTV's Made, Michael Strahan helped a fellow dumpy football brother out who wanted to be a "Ladies Man."

You know how to make a bullshot? Do you know how to make a shoe smell?

Arizona-Panthers on the flatscreens, Eagles-Giants ready to throw down the following day, and the bartender showing his Dallas pride with a Julius Jones jersey.

This about sums up yesterday

In case you can't follow:

F*ck the Giants
Eagles #1
Do they ever win a Super Bowl?
No
Yes
In the 40's and 50's before it was called Super Bowl.

Who put the M where the T should be?

I stared at this a good 5 minutes. I'm sure they got it wrong.

CR Dunbar: Fox NFL Sunday Needs New Focus

I was watching Fox NFL Sunday yesterday and saw Jay "Oscar" Glazer's segment. He had the Fox exclusive that Jay Zygmunt would be fired as GM of the Rams either on Monday or Tuesday.

From the sense of it, it seemed that Glazer was breaking the news before even Zygmunt knew about it.

I humbly ask that they apply this news technique to their own show.

Admittedly, I have only seen about 80 percent of the Fox pre-game broadcasts this year. I watch it because I am sadly a follower of the Lions, and it is slightly more likely that Fox will have analysis of the game as the NFC station. However, this year the new Fox team has been gut-wrenchingly obnoxious.

The one upmanship between Strahan and Bradshaw needs to stop. They spend more time delivering and receiving jabs about pre-nups, balding and teeth, intertwined with inside jokes that require them to slap Howie, that the show has become more of an episode of "Til Death" with slow-pitch punchlines rather than a football program.

To add to the problem, Menefee does nothing to bring the topic to football, but fuels the flame for the two. JB would throw a shot to close out a segment and head to commercial, but Menefee gets caught overextending a segment by allowing more banter.

The public put up with the dimwit routine with Bradshaw to soften the military delivery of Long and the X and Os of the requisite coach (mostly Johnson). The addition of Strahan, who has been stroking producers for years to get a broadcasting job, has doubled the dimwit delegation and, subsequently, the focus of the show.

What does he add that he needs to be at the table crammed in like a ass on a toilet seat?

I would applaud the producers should they leak to and allow Glazer to announce that Strahan will be fired on the following Monday or Tuesday.

The show was tolerable and enjoyable as late as last year. The Strahan addition has turned the show into a deformed "The Other Half," and we all know how that turned out.

Commercial CRitic: Nike Leaves Nothing but Questions

Nike attempted to replicate its magic.

Nike unveiled one of the best commercials of the year at the beginning of the football season with an animated sequence of Shawn Merriman and Steven Jackson titled Leave Nothing. The commercial was innovative and fun to watch. I turned my head to watch it when I heard the music, similar to the Burger King commercials a season before when you heard The King's music.

For the Super Bowl, Nike took a short cut and created a Madden version of the commercial for Strahan and Osi Umenyiora's trip through the playoffs. It flopped.

The animation starts well with the Umenyiora sequences against Tampa Bay, good DE moves. But then makes a wrong turn with Strahan. Is Strahan playing Strong Safety? Then he gets up to cover a kickoff?

It was as if the animators took their time doing the first two animations and then their feet were put to fire to finish it.

Strahan sacked No. 6 on the Packers. I checked, there is no No. 6 on the Packers. It would have made more sense to put Brett Favre on a stretcher throwing the ball in the NFC Championship game.

On a side note, it is nice to see when the animators for Madden are paid good money for a commercial they still can't have the offensive linemen make a block on their man. Watch the Left Tackle for the Packers trip while blocking air. Classic.

Nike forced this one and dragged down the Merriman/Jackson piece and Madden with it. I hope they have something better for the actual Super Bowl.

Strahan Looking for Work

Have you ever seen an athlete interview for a broadcaster position as hard as Michael Strahan?

Strahan has been whoring himself out to every cameraman for at least three years trying to endear executive producers and the public.

Every year the Giants have a bye week you see Strahan yucking it up with the FOX boys in their makeshift family room or grab-assing on their faux field. This year he couldn't wait for the bye week and made a riveting video diary of his trip to London.

Whenever he has a day off you can find him on the Best Damn Sport Show trying to somehow patent the gap in his teeth.

The fact that he is going to the Super Bowl this year has only exacerbated the problem. I've watched my good share of SportsCenter this week, and he has constantly been in the media room spouting rehearsed comments to anyone who will listen. Grabbing the mike like an auctioneer selling a steer.

Win or lose this Sunday, I wouldn't be surprised if he paid someone to setup a podium on the field so that he can do a quick pre-press conference.

Focus on pass rushing Strahan, the Sunday Morning Broadcaster job interview can wait.
